Today’s focus was on industrial and shunting 0-4-0T engines. Once the circuit had been set up several 0-4-0Ts were soon buzzing round the track. John B had his B4 pulling a couple of coaches and Rob had his ex-L&Y 0-4-0ST Pug No. 11247 pulling two private owner wagons. Roger ran a Rushton & Hornsby 48DS and Geoff had two industrial engines, the first being 0-4-0T “Curlew” in a maroon livery, the second an EHLR Manning Wardle 0-4-0ST the prototype of which had languished under a bridge for 20 years.

Geoff also ran his Sentinel Y10 0-4-0 that he had built many years ago. This oddity looked like it couldn’t make up its mind which way it was going as it had a cab at both ends. Fred ran his GWR Peckett 0-4-0ST No. 968 pulling a permanent way train consisting of two ballast wagons, two match trucks, a 20-ton cranes and a brake van. Fred later stretched the definition of today’s focus by running an ex WCPR Drewry four-wheel rail motor presumably on the basis that it shunted people about. While all this was going on Bill ran his GWR Class 56xx 0-6-2T pulling a train of mixed freight, a bit off piste maybe but who’s
counting.
The usual activities were being carried on at the big table with Paul H working on his GWR Riding Van, Steve painting some figures and John D working on something unusual as usual. Over by the windows David L and Barry were servicing David’s Terriers, a service following their stint on Queen Charlotte Dock at the weekend. At lunch I reported that Queen Charlotte Dock had performed well at the Canterbury Show at the weekend and would be heading off to the Erith Show on the coming weekend.
Roger said that he had put flyers for various forthcoming shows on the notice board and John D informed us that there was to be a Garden Railway Show with live steam at Teynham on the coming Sunday.
As usual David Ho kept us all provided with teas and coffees until we packed everything away and headed off home. Chris
