In the first of our sessions dedicated to working on layouts or our own projects eight of us assembled at Badlesmere and got on with it. Roger was working on one of Geoff’s bargain basement wagons on which he had carried out a cut and shut operation and was now adding strapping and other detail in accordance with the relevant diagram drawing from “An illustrated history of Southern Wagons Volume III”. Barry and David L carried on with their labelling operation on Queen Charlotte Dock wiring. This will eventually form part of a small pamphlet to explain what goes where and why and advance orders are now being taken for this literary phenomenon. Paul W was busy cleaning up the windows on two impressively large building sides (Skytrex I think) that he is cannibalising for his own layout. I worked on the station building for my Margate Sands layout adding brick headers above all the doors and windows although the lighting conditions were not ideal for this operation. Steve fettled away at various bits and pieces as Steve does and Geoff and Dave B completed the cast list. Page 2 of 4 Although not many of us were there we all had a very enjoyable morning getting stuff done. The downside of course is that, whilst we have agreed, at member’s requests, to trial these extra working meetings for three months, unless we get sufficient numbers to cover their costs we will not continue with them after the trial period.
